DIY Plant Stand

IMG_9392.jpg

I’ve become quite the crazy plant lady the last few months, and can’t hardly believe I’ve been able to keep a fiddle leaf fig alive for well over a year now #plantwhisperer.  With all of this extra time on my hands, why not bring a little extra color and height to my front porch plants?

In a lot of our projects, you’ll see that we use black iron pipe. Mostly because Caleb we like to over-engineer things and create sturdy projects; but we are also fully invested in this commitment to our overall design aesthetic.

This is one of the easiest projects I’ve ever come up with, and is too good not to share! We prefer to use black iron pipe because it is slightly cheaper than the galvanized option, but both will work! Typically it is covered in a black coating that can easily be removed with a quick acetone wipe down (cloth or steel wool works best) to remove manufacturer barcodes and labels. Do this step before you start assembling!

To recreate our DIY plant stand, here’s what you’ll need: (I used 3/4” diameter)

  • 1 - 48” double threaded black iron pipe (or desired height)

  • 3 - 10” double threaded black iron pipe (for the hanger and base)

  • 1 - 90 degree elbow joint

  • 1 - T elbow joint

  • 2 - 45 degree elbow joint

  • 3 - end caps

  • Acetone

  • Spray paint

Let’s get ready to assemble!

  1. Build your base in this order: end cap, 10” pipe, 45 degree elbow, T elbow joint, 45 degree elbow, 10” pipe, end cap.

  2. Next, attach the 48” pipe to the T elbow joint.

  3. Then, attach the 90 degree elbow joint, the 10” pipe, and end cap.

  4. Add spray paint or a clear coat to avoid rusting in the elements.

  5. Viola!

If you want to up your game, consider adding a second arm for some extra plant hanging dimension! For this, you’d need to adjust your overall base height, consider a 24'“+ 24”, this way, your 2nd arm can hang perfectly in the middle. Grab another 10” pipe, t-joint and end cap. Easy peasy!

Happy planting!

Yours Truly,
J
